History of the Augusta (GA) Alumni Chapter (SE) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
During the summer of 1951, the brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi living in the greater Augusta began to talk about organizing a chapter in the city. From time to time brothers would discuss this matter. The First call meeting of what was to be Augusta Alumni Chapter was held at the home of Brother David M. Dupree on 15th Street. Those present were Brothers H.R. Scott, H.L. Grant, W. Blanchard, G.A. Terry Jr., and David M. Dupree. It was here that the group recorded necessary data that would be needed to get a Chapter started. It was decided that all brothers would become financial with a grand chapter and provisional officers be elected at an early date. The brothers next agreed that the group would petition the grand chapter for the privilege to organize an Alumni chapter in Augusta.
Eddie Howard - Polemarch
Brother Eddie James Howard, Jr, a native of Twiggs County, Georgia, is the current Polemarch of the Augusta Alumni Chapter. While attending Valdosta State University, it was there where his desire to join our noble clan was realized. However, because graduation was only a few months away his dream had to be delayed. In 1993, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and enrolled in the University of Georgia and was one of eighteen students across the nation selected to participate in their Higher Education program. After graduating with a Master’s degree in Student Personnel in Higher Education, Eddie accepted a position at the University of Louisville as a Coordinator of Leadership and Services and was later promoted to Assistant Director. There in Kentucky he was initiated into the Louisville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi in spring of 1995.
